DELCOURT COLLECTION / FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION AT GALLERY COLLECTIONAL, DUBAI

About "Horses in my dreams" exhibition at Gallery Collectional

French house Delcourt Collection and the work of designer Christophe Delcourt are being presented in the Middle East for the first time at Gallery Collectional from October 10th to 24th, 2024.
Inspired by the majesty and mystery of horses and the elegant equestrian accessories that accompany them, “Horses in my dreams” is an exhibition as well as a 17 pieces collection of furnishings and textiles that evokes the spirited connection between rider and horse and the abstract gestures in the rhythms and sensuous movement of equestrianism.

The collection of screens, tables, armchairs and sofas arrives in varied combinations of smoked and brushed elm and oak, as well as upholstered taupe leather. Fabrics reference the organic, muted shades of rural retreats and European country sports, with soft bouclé and woven finishes providing a welcoming warmth. Eminently earthy and anchored, the juxtaposition of texture and material finds its balance in the interplay between the different elements now presented together in this space.

The pieces created by Christophe Delcourt are accompanied by the UGO pendant light in oak, designed by Théophile de Bascher, which is suspended from the ceiling by a strap, offering a soft infusion of classic leather saddlery. Additional textiles on display from Delcourt Textiles 2024 collection are designed to interweave effortlessly with the designer’s existing fabric library. Nature-inspired motifs and semi-abstract jacquards tell a color story ranging across a restrained palette of forest green, navy blue, taupe and gray, with pops of brighter chartreuse and red tones.
Christophe Delcourt comments: “I have always been fascinated by the way horses embody the dual spirits of both freedom and discipline. Bringing this collection to Dubai with Collectional provides an inspiring opportunity to connect with the region’s own long standing equestrian culture and to enter into a dialogue with the diverse global aesthetics now represented in the city”.

About Delcourt Collection

Christophe Delcourt was 30 years old when he first showed his own designs at Maison & Objets. The stand was tiny, but success was immediate. “The American buyers launched my career. I had made the prototypes myself, so I very quickly had to find partners to produce the first orders.” He met two brothers – one a cabinet- maker, the other a blacksmith – to whom he entrusted his drawings. At their side, he learned the trade and the technique, gaining a deeper knowledge of materials. “Self-production was a clear choice. It enabled me to manage my own production and my distribution network, retaining complete creative freedom.”

A few decades later, Delcourt Collection has established itself as a unique company on the French furniture scene, working with wood, stone, leather or bronze, and upholstered pieces. Christophe Delcourt has formed a network of excellence that enables him to design high-quality, unusual pieces of furniture that always pay tribute to the nobility of the material.

The designer advocates an artisanal method. In 2007, he installed his design studio and showroom in an old piano factory, maintaining high-quality craftsmanship. It is at 47 rue de Babylone, in a back courtyard bathed in light. “I chose a workshop, an open, neutral space, like a blank page. I wanted my furniture to speak for itself, without artifice. I don’t define myself as an interior architect; I prefer to offer a vision that my clients can then appropriate and integrate into their worlds.”
